Sourdough Bread

Refer to Sourdough Starter #2 for the starter this recipe calls for.

2 Tsp. Sugar
1 1/2 Cups Warm water
1 Pkg. Yeast (2 1/4 tsp.)
2 1/2 Cups White flour
2 Tsp. Salt

1/2 Tsp. Baking soda
1 Cup Sourdough starter, room temp.
3 Cups White flour
Enough milk to brush tops of loaves

Stir 2 teaspoons of sugar in 1 1/2 cups of warm water. Sprinkle yeast over top, stand 10 minutes – Stir to dissolve yeast. Add the next four ingredients and mix well. Work in enough flour until dough pulls away from the sides of bowl. Knead 10 minutes. Place in greased bowl and cover with tea towel. Put in oven with the light on – until double in size. Punch down and divide into 3 equal amounts. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Shape into round loaves or buns. Put on greased baking sheet and let rise in oven with light on – until double in size. Make slashes on top of loaves and brush with milk. Bake at 400 degrees 30 to 35 minutes. Brush tops with butter.
