Buttermilk Pound Cake

3 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
5 eggs
3 cups sifted flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
pinch of salt

1 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons almond flavoring, or flavor desired

Cream sugar and shortening; then add eggs, one at a time.
Combine flour, soda and salt. Add alternately with the buttermilk.
Add flavoring.
Bake 1 1/2 hours at 325°.
