Caramel Taffy Apples

12 med Apples, washed
1 can Sweetened condensed milk
1 C Sugar
1/2 C Light corn syrup
1 tsp Vanilla

12 Wooden skewers

1. Insert skewers into stem end of each apple.
2. In medium sized heavy saucepan, combine rest of ingredients. Cook slowly, stirring constantly to 230 degrees on a candy thermometer or until a little mixture in cold water forms a very stiff ball.
3. Working quickly, away from drafts, dip each apple into caramel, twirling it until well coated. Place with skewer end up on buttered plate; let stand until firm.
